my husband has been raving about my friend's homemade granola for months. he's been telling me all about how it tastes much better than store bought, and how he wanted me to get the recipe. so when i had the opportunity to try McCann’s Steel Cut Irish Oatmeal®, i knew i wanted to try making my own homemade granola with it.
McCann's Irish Oats are rich, and have a unique, nutty taste. what i love about them is – there is minimal processing, nothing added, nothing artificial and they made from 100 percent whole grain Irish oats. McCann’s Steel Cut Irish Oatmeal recently earned its first Non-GMO Certification from the Non-GMO Project for three of its products – McCann’s Steel Cut Irish Oatmeal in the 28 oz. Tin, McCann’s Quick & Easy Steel Cut Irish Oatmeal in the 24 oz. Canister and McCann’s Steel Cut Irish Oatmeal Quick Cooking Rolled Oats in the 16 oz. Box. and like it's name, McCann's Irish Oats are grown on the lush Irish countryside where some of the finest oats in the world are found. not only do they make great oatmeal in the morning, they also ended up making a great homemade granola.
when researching how to make homemade granola, i found out that it is very simple, and that you don't have to stick to an exact recipe. you can add a variety of things to the granola and make it your own....just by sticking to these basic guidelines:
How to make you own Homemade Granola
ingredients
4-5 cups McCann’s Irish Oats
1 cup raw nuts or seeds
1 cup dried fruit
1 cup shredded coconut
1 Tablespoon of your favorite spice (cinnamon, pumpkin pie spice, cardamon, etc.)
½ to 1 cup of butter, oil or coconut oil
¼ teaspoon salt
¼ cup of sweet (brown sugar, honey, agave or syrup)
2 teaspoons of vanilla or almond extract
directions
Combine all ingredients and spread on a baking sheet. Bake at 350º for 30-45 minutes until golden brown. let cool. store in an sealed container. (remember, you can adjust any of the ingredients of this recipe to your liking.)
my homemade granola turned out pretty tasty! i ended using almonds, apricots, cinnamon, brown sugar and vanilla as some of my ingredients. it was nice and crunchy with a yummy nutty flavor. i can wait for my hubby to get home and try it. hopefully he will like it as much as my friends!
i ended up making so much granola, that my boys wanted to take some to their school teachers. so i found some cute jars and filled them up and tied them with string. now the boys can take a nice better-for-you treat their teachers to munch on during recess.
i am so excited that i now know how to make my own homemade granola. it tastes so much fresher than store bought, and by using McCann’s Irish Oatmeal, it is better-for-you. i highly recommend McCann's Steel Cut Irish Oatmeal in the Traditional Tin. and if you are pressed for time, try McCann’s Quick & Easy Steel Cut Irish Oatmeal or McCann’s Quick Cooking Rolled Oats that cook up in minutes. click here for information on where to purchase McCann’s Steel Cut Irish Oatmeal.

I don't like just regular oatmeal but I eat it because it's good for me. However I do like a recipe that I found for blueberry baked oatmeal. I have made something like granola by toasting the oatmeal in a pan with some seasonings and liked that pretty well too.
