finding activities that the entire family will enjoy can sometimes be tough. i even find it hard to find activities that my older boys and youngest boy both like. but we didn't have this problem at all when we attended our first comedy club as a family. the Irvine Improv invited us to the club to check out their new series of family-friendly "Laugh-Fest" shows that brings comedy beyond the “night club” to children, teens and adults. these "Laugh-Fest" performances feature professional, award-winning comedians and entertainers, presented in the Improv's world-class comedy club environment. plus the shows are to be enjoyed alongside a tasty meal from their new Umami Burger menu!
What to Expect at the Irvine Improv
the Irvine Improv is located across from the movie theaters at the Irvine Spectrum in Orange County, and is connected to Umami Burger. inside the club, there is plenty of seating including booths and table seats. the atmosphere holds a great vibe, and the kids were very excited for the show.
the fun thing about going to the Irvine Improv is that you can enjoy drinks or a meal during the show, so you can sit back and relax with your favorite appetizer or entree. you can continue to order items off the menu throughout the show, and the servers are great. they kept our drinks filled a made sure we were happy during the entire time we were there.
The Umami Burger Menu
the menu at the Irvine Improv is provided by Umami Burger, and includes their popular burgers, appetizers, drinks and even desserts. food is an additional cost to the admission of the show, and prices are marked on the menu. there are food minimums required per ticket, so be sure to check them out before you purchase your tickets so you are aware of them.
we started out our meal with nachos and drinks and enjoyed them while the show began.
during the show, we enjoyed some awesome burgers and the kids were able to order items off the kid's menu...which they also loved.
The Comedy Show
our comedian for the show was Ron Pearson, an actor and a world record juggler that The Hollywood Reporter called “a comic ball of fire.” you may have seen him on Malcolm & Eddie, guest starring on The Drew Carey Show, Two Guys and a Girl, The George Lopez Show, Boston Legal, Chelsea Lately, and recurring on That 70s Show and The Apostles of Comedy and more! he was absolutely hilarious and captivated the audience of adults and children in the show.
and don't be surprised if you're invited on-stage to be part of the show. the audience is part of the show and kids and adults got to participate in funny stunts, tricks and jokes.
i was really impressed with the show and happy that it was geared towards kids, teens...and also adults. there was something for everyone and we all left laughing....in fact, i don't think anyone left without laughing hysterically.
my boys (and myself!) give it two thumbs up!
to find out more about the Irvine Improv at the Irvine Spectrum and for information about their family-friendly shows, visit the Irvine Improv's website. you can also find other "Laugh Fest" shows at other Improve locations on the website. all shows are open to the public, but are also part of the Improv's new “Laugh-Fest” Patch Program, where scout troops and youth groups may attend (with a special group rate), and receive a fun and informative educational packet about the history of comedy and earn a custom-made Improv Laugh-Fest Patch. i hope that your family is able to attend one of these fun family shows!
