DIRTY DANCING should have stayed on the screen. Instead of making the piece their own, the producers tried to recreate, word for word, the film on stage. It does not work, or at least it didn't work for me. Stage is not film, and film is not stage, and if a film is to go to the stage, it needs to be its own... MARY POPPINS, BILLY ELLIOT, are good examples of the transition. DIRTY DANCING is not, at least for me. I was actually eyeing the exit door at intermission, but gave the the second act a change for redemption. I just didn't connect to the characters, and would much rather have been home.
