Looking for a hotel that's family-friendly, looks and feels upscale, and is located centrally to Carlsbad's most popular attractions? Then The Cassara Carlsbad, Tapestry Collection by Hilton is a great choice!
We're always up for a fun weekend getaway that's not too far from Orange County, and Carlsbad, CA is a favorite. Carlsbad is a charming beachside city located just south of the OC. You will find popular places to visit like The Flower Fields, LEGOLAND, Carlsbad Strawberry Company and the beach!
The Cassara Carlsbad: About the Hotel
Staying the weekend at The Cassara Carlsbad with our kids was so much fun! It was family-friendly...but also adult friendly. And it is BEAUTIFUL. Not only in its decor and landscaping...but also with its beautiful views of the ocean, flower gardens and the Carlsbad cityscape. It's literally walking distance from The Flower Field and Legoland via a private pedestrian entrance.
From the moment we arrived at The Cassara Carlsbad, we felt like we were staying at an upscale beach resort. It has that fresh, spa-like feel...with great amenities around every corner.
Thanks to the friendly staff, we felt very taken care of.
The lobby is gorgeous! We especially loved these eclectic swings and the grand fireplace. There are tables to sit at and seating areas if you want to relax and enjoy a view of the ocean from afar, or read a magazine.
Now let's check out the rooms at The Cassara Carlsbad, Tapestry Collection by Hilton!.
The Cassara Carlsbad Rooms
The Cassara Carlsbad has a variety of rooms - from standard one bedrooms with a king sized bed, to their two bedroom suites with two twins and a king-sized bed. They even have some rooms equipped with a Peloton!
During our visit to The Cassara Carlsbad, we stayed in one of the newly renovated 2-bedroom suites. These rooms have a main area for a king-sized bed, desk and television, a hallway area with a couch and television, bathroom, and a separate room with two twin beds and a television.
The suites are great for families of 4 or 5...if someone wants to sleep on the couch. Having the separate rooms allows families to separate the kids from the adults during times they want to sleep without disturbances.
Did I mention our room also has a balcony? Yep...and this is the view from it. An amazing view of the ocean and The Flower Field. The Cassara Carlsbad is that close!
The Hotel Grounds are Beautiful!
One of my favorite things at The Cassara Carlsbad, was the beautiful decor, the green and flowered landscaping and the views. Once the fog rolls away each morning, you are left with blue skies, ocean breezes, and blooming flowers.
There are areas to sit and relax...even fire pits to enjoy in the evening. Bring your own s'mores kits or purchase one from the lobby on certain evenings.
And when I say that The Flower Fields are close to The Cassara Carlsbad, I mean it! On one of the days of our stay, we took a walk along the walkway that runs adjacent the hotel grounds. The walkway overlooks The Flower Fields so you get an AMAZING view!
See what I mean?!!!!
Why is The Cassara Carlsbad Great for Families?
Whenever we travel, staying at a hotel that is family-friendly its always important to us. It's important that the kids can be entertained with the amenities, and also that they can act like kids. I don't want to get stares from other guests if they happen to be behaving like kids do. After all, when you are on vacation, that's the last thing you want to be worried about.
The Cassara Carlsbad has two resort size pools, family splash pad, and a fitness center. My kids of course were all about the family pool and splash pad! We spent a lot of time there.
The splash pad was a big hit. There was plenty of space to run around through the water, spray the water cannons and enjoys the water slide. Th water was cold, but that didn't stop the kids!
And of course the pool was so much fun. The water is heated...so it's not freezing. It's not exactly warm, but there isn't a shock when you enter. You can bring your own floats to play in the pool, and there is a large shallow section to it.
Next to the pool, there are table and game tables to enjoy. Plus, when you arrive, make sure to ask for the kids activity calendar. Each day the hotel provides a few fun activities for kids to enjoy such as crafts, ice cream socials and games.
The main pool issue located just outside of the lobby, and has some amazing views of the city of Carlsbad and Pacific Ocean! Kids are allowed to swim here, but it is suggested that they aren't loud and playful in this area. The family pool is a great place for that.
This pool is used for relaxing and lap swimming. Also, there is a large hot tub, cabanas and lotos of loungers.
If you want a bite to eat, there is a walk up food service area that serves snacks and drinks from the The Cassara Kitchen & Bar.
Just look at that view!
What's to Eat at The Cassara Carlsbad?
The Cassara Carlsbad does not have a full restaurant, however, you can enjoy The Cassara Kitchen & Bar in the grand lobby. Kick back with a classic handcrafted cocktail with coastal and poolside views. Indulge in our signature small bites with always fresh regionally and locally sourced ingredients.
The Karl Strauss Restaurant shares a parking lot with the hotel. So this is also a great option for food. they serve breakfast in the mornings, and lunch and dinner. The menu includes appetizers, burgers, sandwiches, steaks and drinks.
They offer indoor seating at tables and bar, and also outdoor seating in their patio area with heaters and fire pits. This is nice for families that have kids.
One of the best things about The Cassara Carlsbad is that because its so close to everything in Carlsbad, its easy to run to a local restaurant and then go back to the hotel to chill. After a fun day exploring Carlsbad and The Flower Fields, we got pizza and watched movies in the room.
Its was an amazing feeling because the room was nice a clean and it was so relaxing just not having to worry about doing stuff at home.
What Places Did We Visit While Staying at the Cassara Carlsbad, CA?
There's so much to do in Carlsbad, CA. Of course the beach is a popular choice! But there is so much more. The Flower Fields, Legoland, The Carlsbad Strawberry Company, and so many fun restaurants and bakeries.
During our stay at The Cassara Carlsbad, of course we visited The Flower Fields. You can see the hotel behind us, so you know it's super close! You can walk or take a complimentary shuttle over to the fields. The hotel offers free shuttles not only to the fields, but also to Carlsbad Premium Outlets and to the Carlsbad beaches.
The Flower Fields are seasonal, only open in the spring. Usually late March through early May. They are very popular for photoshoots! You can even take a tractor around all the fields to get the best views.
The colors are amazing, with a world famous 50 acres of ranunculus! I recommend visiting at least once in your lifetime.
Besides the wagon rides, you can stroll through the artist gardens, visit the bird aviaries, play at Santa’s Playground, mine for gems, attempt the Sweet Pea Maze, see the Historic Poinsettia Display, and if you come mid-April, there are sunflowers!
One morning, we visited...
The Good Doughnuts in Carlsbad, CA
It was recommended that we visit The Goods Doughnuts donut shop. And we are so glad we did. The donuts were amazing...with unique flavors and upscale combinations. It is probably one of the most popular donut shops in Carlsbad.
The Goods Doughnuts has a new menu of flavors each week. Donuts are priced between $3 -$5 each, so not the cheapest donuts around. But worth it...because they were different than any donuts we've ever tasted.
Besides donuts, there are also meat filled croissants, gourmet coffee and smoothies and desserts.
Our absolute favorite was the Banana Fosters Donut with meringue cream. However, we truly loved them all and can't wait to come back to try more flavors.
next up...
Haru Mama Noodles & Buns in Carlsbad, CA
Haru Mama Noodles & Buns is famous for the character shaped buns. The kids really wanted to try them all. So we decided to check it out...even with an hour or more wait. Yes...the wait is long and service is slow, but overall, we enjoyed ourselves.
Haru Mama Noodles & Buns has a good selection of noodles to choose from. It was a totally new experience for our family since we've never been to a ramen place. We didn't even know what to order.
Overall, we ended up liking what we ordered. They even had vegetarian choices for me! YUM.
We waited a long time for our character buns...but that is what the kids wanted most. They didn't disappoint! Super cute and all were delicious. They have both sweet and savory choices. Be prepared to pay around $8 per pair of buns, $12-15 per noodle dish.
She was super happy to get the Koala character buns!!! They had strawberry creme inside (if I am remembering correctly).
finally, we checked out...
The Windmill Food Hall
Yes, our trip was mostly about food, flowers and swimming. But that's okay! The Windmill Food Hall can't be missed, it's located in iconic windmill building. You'll see it right when you get off the freeways. It's also right across from The Flower Fields.
What great about the Windmill Food Hall, is that there are more than a dozen food local food vendors. So you can make the whole family happy. There is also a full bar that serves fun and creative craft cocktails and craft beers.
It's got a fun vibe that will make you want to stay and relax, cool games for the little kids and the adults. Everything can be ordered by mobile order, so it makes your visit easier.
We did enjoy the food! Although there were many vendors we didn't get to try.
I recommend the Windmill Food Hall...because there are lots of choices and the prices are very reasonable! A great choice for families.

How does the Cassara differ from Grand Pacific Palisades Resort? Many of the photos are identical.
